Steve White, CEO of the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA), assured agents in his anticipated conference speech on May 10th, that the insurance community is “Back for Good.” With the Manchester Central conference behind us, this year’s theme was “Our Insurance Community.” With this in mind, the Granite Underwriting team were delighted to connect with new and existing members of our underwriting community following an enforced 3-year break due to covid-19.
The team travelled to Manchester to stand D69, eager to discuss the Granite Underwriting product offering and the exciting opportunity it presents for brokers and customers alike. It has been an eventful three years for the insurance industry, and it was a welcome change to deal with the public face-to-face and not have to rely on Teams, Google Meet, or Skype.
BIBA’s triumphant return
Steve White reflected: “We had to adapt at speed to global lock-down and, as that threat receded, were forced to react to a war almost on our doorstep, while tackling increasing inflation and supply issues, the insurance community and the risks it manages have changed for good.”
The team represented the brand well, dressed in Granite Underwriting branded BIBA clothing. The D69 stand design also supported the brand, including a well-stocked fridge of Granite Underwriting branded sparkling water, and GU swag bags for potential clients to enjoy.
Positive reactions to BIBA 2022
Emma Jackson, Motor Fleet and Commercial Vehicle Courier Manager attended BIBA for the first time this year. When asked for her first impressions, she commented: “I was completely awestruck by the sheer size of the event itself and really impressed with other companies’ stands and how they went about putting their brand out there; whether it was bars for both alcohol and smoothies, competitions, games, etc. they grabbed attention and enticed people to the stand.”
Granite Underwriting customers were overjoyed to finally meet the team face-to-face. John Meredith, Managing Director at A L Risk Solutions Limited, stated: “It was great to finally meet the team at BIBA especially Nadia, Emma and Jon! I have spoken to the ladies, especially Emma, for years so it was really nice to be able to put a face to all the names.”
With thousands of insurance professionals under one roof, the BIBA 2022 Conference provided an invaluable opportunity to reunite, network, and do mutually beneficial business together.
Seek solutions not barriers

Following two exciting days packed with insightful expert content from over forty speakers, it was great to see the hustle and bustle of the BIBA conference return. Jay Rennie, Head of Motor Fleet and Commercial Vehicle Courier, stated that his favourite aspect of the two days was “The opportunity to catch up with multiple existing business partners over the course of the two days and to see Emma and Nadia from the team flourish in their first appearance at BIBA.”
Steven White offered, in closing: “It may not be an easy year given the environment you are operating in, but I have no doubt your fundamentals will allow [The Insurance Community] to become even stronger and ensure our customers continue to get the support they, at times, desperately need. You manage risk, but you do it in a way that seeks solutions, not barriers. That is a very good thing – never change.”
